Our History

Our name at North Mentor honors our 1984 merger with Beachwood Centenary Church. When that congregation closed, we incorporated their history, name, and funds into North Mentor Centenary UMC. This merger allowed us to move the church building back from the road and add a fellowship hall.

We serve our community through a Christmas toy pantry and a food pantry to support families in need. We are also proud of our Live Nativity, which began in 1973 and is one of the oldest in the state.

The congregation itself was founded in 1854, serving the North Mentor area along what is now Lake Shore Boulevard. The name “Centenary” reflects that heritage.

In 1968, the Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren Church to form the United Methodist Church (UMC), bringing North Mentor Centenary into the unified denomination. Over the decades, our church has remained relatively small and community-focused, with recent attendance averaging around 40–50 worshipers.
