North Mentor Centenary umc

Our History

The congregation was founded in 1854, serving the North Mentor area along what is now Lake Shore Boulevard.  Its name— “Centenary”—follows a common Methodist tradition of commemorating the centennial of John Wesley’s Methodism, though not necessarily tied to Mentor specifically. Other churches adopted that name to mark the broader Wesleyan tradition’s 100‑year milestone.

In 1968, the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church formed the United Methodist Church (UMC), placing North Mentor Centenary within that unified denomination.  Over the decades, the church has remained relatively small and community‑focused. As of recent listings, average attendance has been around 40–50 worshipers. Today, it maintains active ministries such as Adopt‑a‑Family, supporting local families facing hardship, and runs a toy pantry during holiday seasons.
